Tibet Biking Tour


Duration: 21 Nights/ 22 Days
Places to visit: Kathmandu - Lhasa - Chushur - Kampala - Baidi -  Karola – Longma - Gyantze - Shigatse Tashilhunpo - Geding - Younongla  -Lhatse - Gyatsola Pass  - Shegar  - Pang La  - Rongpuk Monastery  - Everest Base Camp  - Pang La - Shegar - Old Tingri - Nyalamu - Zhangmu - Dhulikhel - Kathmandu


Day 01:  Kathmandu - Lhasa
In the morning as per scheduled departure transfer to airport to board on flight to Lhasa, and on arrival you will be transferred to hotel.

 

Rest of the day you will be free for independent activities.

 

Lhasa at an altitude of 3,650 Mts. is situated on the north bank of Kyichu River. Lhasa in Tibetan means "Place of the Gods", the residence of the Dalai Lama. It is sacred because of the figures of Songtsen Gampo and his two royal consorts and the figures of Sakyamuni brought from Chang' an and Nepal. One thousand five hundred years ago Lhasa was known as Otang, which means, "plain flowing with milk," because of its rich pasture, good for grazing sheep and cattle. The Rasa Monastery soon became the Otang people's central place of worship, for it enshrined the gilded image of Sakyamuni brought from Chang's an by Princess Wen Cheng. In the course of time, the original name of the place was forgotten, and it became known simply as Rasa, which was gradually changed into Lhasa.

Day 02: In Lhasa
Morning you will proceed for full day sightseeing of Heritage Sites of Potola Palace, Jokhang Temple.

Visit Potala, which was constructed in 637 by Songtsen Gampo, the first king of the united Tibet and later reconstructed and served as the winter residence of the Dalai Lamas. and Jokhang monastery, the center of the Tibetan Buddhism and the sacred land of Buddhist followers where innumerable pilgrims come for worship everyday. The temple, built in 647, is the earliest wood-and-masonry structure still existing in Tibet.


Later explore the bustling bazaar along the Barkhor Street.

Day 03: In Lhasa
Morning you will proceed for full day sightseeing of highlights of Lhasa - the Drepung Monastery, the Sera Monastery,both of them are Gelupa Monasteries and also you will visit the famous Dalai Lama summer palace - Norbulingka. 


Drepung Monastery is one the three greatest Buddhist temples in Lhasa together with Sera and Ganden Monasteries.

 

Visit Drepung Monastery for the whole morning, later after drive to Sera Monastery, have a little hike for the beautiful valley scenery nearby and picnic there, in the afternoon, visit Sera monastery, which was created in 1419 and has always been an important Buddhist seminary. As rose are planted everywhere in the monastery, it is also called “the court of wild rose”.

 

Norbulingka meaning 'Treasure Park' covers an area of around 360000 sq. m. and is considered to be the biggest man made garden in Tibet. 

 

Later walk on the Barkhor Street nearby the temple, a big free market with its prolific stalls for selling local specialties.

Day 04: Lhasa - Chushur (50 Kms / 01 Hrs)
Morning you will proceed Jump on your bike and head to Chushur. Chushur is located to the southwest of Lhasa and the lower reaches of Lhasa River. It is 60 kilometers from Lhasa to Chushur and 77 kilometers from east to west and 36 kilometers from north to south.

Day 05: Chushur - Kampala - Baidi (70 Kms / 02Hrs)
Morning you will proceed on the road and tackle the long, tough yet scenic days that lead you across the Kampala pass (5000m), get to Baidi Village.

Day 06:  Baidi - Karola - Longma (70 Kms / 02 Hrs)
Continue cross the Karola pass and tour to Longma.  
Stay overnight in tents.


Day 07: Longma - Gyantze (70 Kms / 02 Hrs)
This is another fairly easy day as we cruise downhill to Gyantse. We will spend the night in the local best Gyantse hotel.
Relax and enjoy the hot showers

Day 08: Gyantse - Shigatse (90 Kms / 03 Hrs)
Morning you will proceed to visit man historic sites.


Palkhor Monastery and the Kumbum monastery, a large gold roofed Stupa, have much to explore in its intricate buildings. Palkhor Choede enjoys a high status in Tibet Buddhism history because it houses three sects - Sakyapa, Kadampa and Gelugpa together. After all the visits, continue ride to Shigatse.


Check into the local best Shigatse hotel.


Day 09: Shigatse (Tashilhunpo Monastery) - Geding (60 Kms/01 Hrs)
Today you will visit Tashilhunpo Monastery, traditional seat of the Panchen Lama who is the second holiest man in Tibet. In the afternoon, you will head towards the next place – Geding.

Day 10: Geding - Younongla Pass (53 Kms / 01 Hrs)
In the morning you will proceed for Younongla Pass, over 5000 m in elevation. It could be a hard day, and then reach our campsite before the nightfall.

Day 11: Younongla - Lhatse (44 Kms/01 Hrs)

In the morning you will head to Lhatse. From this challenging pass we are rewarded with our first views of Everest in the distance. The night will be spent in the small town of Lhatse and on arrival check-in into the hotel for overnight stay.


Day 12: Lhatse - Gyatsola Pass (80 Kms/02 Hrs)
Lhatse is a small town of a few thousand people in Tibet, just west of the mountain pass leading to Gyatsola Pass.

Day 13: Gyatsola - Shegar (30 Km/01 Hrs)
Today you will proceed to drive southwest to Shegar County, also called new Tingri. Shegar is only a very small town by the roadside.
Stay overnight at your hotel.


Day 14:  Shegar - Pang La (45 Kms/01 Hrs)
Our goal today is to bike ten kilometers off the main road to the Pang La pass and ascend this pass before nightfall. We will spend the night is a small settlement on the south side of the pass.

Day 15: Pang La - Rongpuk Monastery (55 Kms /01 Hrs)
The majority of today's ride is flat as we head toward Rongbuk. However, we must climb a steep 10 kilometers before we reach Rongbuk Monastery. It is such a relief to see Everest come into view as we end this long day.
Stay overnight in tents.


Day 16: Rongbuk - Everest Base Camp - Rongbuk (14 Kms / ½ Hrs)
Today is a much needed rest and sightseeing day in Rongbuk. Rongbuk used to the largest monastic center in the region. Now it is the power place through which all seeking the highest peak via the North Face must pass. Rongbuk is the sacred threshold to Mount Everest, with the most dramatic views in the world. Check into the local best Rongbuk hotel.


Day 17:  Rongbuk - Pang La (55 Kms / 01 Hrs)

Today we cycle to Pang La.

Day 18: Pang La - Shegar - Old Tingri (105 Kms / 04 Hrs)
Today you will take a long and hard riding. Reach to old Tingri before the nightfall. Check into the local best Snow Leopard Guesthouse.


Day 19: Old Tingri - Near Nyalamu (105 Kms / 04 Hrs)

In the morning you will continue to your cycling tour. Spectacular views of the roof of the world and the edge of the Tibetan Plateau.

Day 20: Nyalamu - Zhangmu (80 Kms / 02 Hrs)
Today you will reach to Zhangmu and on arrival check-in into the hotel for overnight stay.


Day 21: Zhangmu - Friendship Bridge - Dhulikhel (86 Kms / 02 Hrs)
In the morning you will proceed for Tibet and Nepal at Friendship Bridge. Cross the border. Pick up from Kodari lunch on the way, ride to Dhulikhel.

 

Stay overnight at hotel.


Day 22: Dhulikhel - Kathmandu
In the morning as per scheduled you will be transferred to Kathmandu airport to board on connecting the fight for onward journey.
