Day 01: Arrival Lhasa
On your arrival at International airport, transfer to your hotel for overnight stay.
Lhasa in Tibetan means "Place of the Gods", the residence of the Dalai Lama. It is sacred because of the figures of Songtsen Gampo and his two royal consorts and the figures of Sakyamuni brought from Chang' and Nepal. One thousand five hundred years ago Lhasa was known as Otang, which means, "plain flowing with milk," because of its rich pasture, good for grazing sheep and cattle. The Rasa Monastery soon became the Otang people's central place of worship, for it enshrined the gilded image of Sakyamuni brought from Chang's an by Princess Wen Cheng. In the course of time, the original name of the place was forgotten, and it became known simply as Rasa, which was gradually changed into Lhasa.

Day 02: In Lhasa
Morning you will proceed for full day sightseeing of Potala Palace, Jokhang monastery, Ramoche Monastery and Norbulinka.
Visit Potala, which was constructed in 637 by Songtsen Gampo, the first king of the united Tibet and later reconstructed and served as the winter residence of the Dalai Lamas and Jokhang monastery, the center of the Tibetan Buddhism and the sacred land of Buddhist followers where innumerable pilgrims come for worship everyday. The temple, built in 647, is the earliest wood-and-masonry structure still existing in Tibet. Norbulingka meaning 'Treasure Park' covers an area of around 360000 sq. m. and is considered to be the biggest man made garden in Tibet.
Later walk on the Barkhor Street nearby the temple, a big free market with its prolific stalls for selling local specialties.

Day 03: In Lhasa
Morning you will proceed for full day sightseeing of Drepung Monastery & Sera monastery.
Drepung Monastery is one the three greatest Buddhist temples in Lhasa together with Sera and Ganden Monasteries.
Visit Drepung Monastery for the whole morning, later after drive to Sera Monastery, have a little hike for the beautiful valley scenery nearby and picnic there, in the afternoon, visit Sera monastery, which was created in 1419 and has always been an important Buddhist seminary. As rose are planted everywhere in the monastery, it is also called “the court of wild rose”.

Day 04: Lhasa – Gyantse (300 Kms / 06 Hrs)
Today you will drive about to Gyangtse en route take a view of Yamzhog Yumcom Lake
Yamdrok Lake is a coiling, many-armed body of water shaped like a scorpion. It doubles back on itself on the western side, effectively creating a large island within its reaches. For Tibetans, it is one of the four holy lakes of Tibet. The lake lies several hundred metres below the road, and in clear weather is a fabulous shade of deep turquoise.
Arrive Gyantse and check-in into the hotel.
Gyantse is an agricultural town situated in the Nyang Chu valley 254km south-west of Lhasa, in central Tibet. It still retains the charm of a traditional Tibetan town untouched by modern expansion and is worth a visit for this reason alone. It made world headlines in 1904 when Colonel Younghusband, who led a British expedition to Tibet, defeated the Tibetan army there. As a crossroads on the principle trade route to India, Gyantse used to be renowned for the excellence of its wool carpets, and in fact is still a hub today for those seeking quality Tibetan carpets.
In the afternoon, you will arrive in Gyangtse and go for the tour of Palkhor Temple, built in the 15th century, and is situated in the west of Gyantse Town with mountains enclosing form three sides of the east, west and north. Its uniqueness is that its three sects of Buddism-Shaja, Ningma and Guolu stayed harmoniously under one roof.

Day 05: Gyantse - Shigatse (90 Kms / 03 Hrs)
In the morning you will be driven to Shigatse which is the second largest city in Tibet. It’s also the home town of Banchen Lama. In the afternoon, you will drop a visit of Tashilumpo monastery. Tashilumpo, sprawls on the slops of Mt. Niser, southwest of Shigatse. It covers an area of about 300,000 square meters. There are many valuable and rare historical articles in the monastery.
En route, visit Shalu monastery, which the construction was started in 1027. Its architecture is of typical combination of the Tibetan and Chinese styles with archways, carved pillars and tilled roofs and the Song and Yuan style murals.

Day 06: Shigatse - Shegar
Today we drive to Shegar and overnight here. En route visit Sakya monastery, which is divided into the south and north two parts. It is of typical Yuan Dynasty style of resembling castles. There are a lot of historical articles in the monastery, among them are found a lot of the imperial certificates, gold signets, crowns, costumes bestowed by the Yuan Dynasty emperors. It has over 10,000 volumes of Tibetan books on astronomy, medicine, calligraphy, and history. So the Sakya monastery enjoys the title ‘the second Dun Huang Cave.’

Day 07: Shegar - Rongbuk Monastery - Mt. Everest
Although it's just 100km from Shegar to Everest Base Camp (5200m), it takes about 4 hours since the cracked winding roads demand much caution. But the views are stupendous on a clear day, and feature a huge sweep of the Himalaya range including peaks over 8000, Makalu, Lhotse, Everest, Gyachung and Cho Oyu. When you finally get to Base Camp, the first sight of the mighty Everest simply leaves you speechless. All the hardship you bear along the way makes sense at this while.
The best moments to watch Mt. Everest's are early morning and late evening when Everest is shining like a goddess in the sunglow.

Day 08: Mt. Everest – Shegar - Lhatse
After view the sunrise of the Mt. Everest, drive about 4 hours to back Shegar. Have a luch here, and then drive back to Lhaste. Tonight we will have our accommodation here. In Lhaste, there is a quite characterized Farmer’s hotel, where they can offer Tibetan dancing and singing show for free.
You can have a funny night here after visiting the stunning beautiful Mt. Everest.
Day 09: Lhatse - Lhasa
Morning you will drive to Lhasa and on arrival check-in into the hotel for overnight stay.
Day 10: Depart Lhasa
Morning you will be free for independent activities and later as per scheduled transferred you to the airport to board on fight for onward journey. |
