Lhasa to  Kathmandu Jeep Safari

Day 01: Arrive in Lhasa
On your early morning arrival at international airport, you will be met and transferred to your hotel.


Lhasa in Tibetan means "Place of the Gods", the residence of the Dalai Lama. It is sacred because of the figures of Songtsen Gampo and his two royal consorts and the figures of Sakyamuni brought from Chang' and Nepal. One thousand five hundred years ago Lhasa was known as Otang, which means, "plain flowing with milk," because of its rich pasture, good for grazing sheep and cattle. The Rasa Monastery soon became the Otang people's central place of worship, for it enshrined the gilded image of Sakyamuni brought from Chang's an by Princess Wen Cheng. In the course of time, the original name of the place was forgotten, and it became known simply as Rasa, which was gradually changed into Lhasa.

Day 02: In Lhasa

Morning you will proceed for full day sightseeing of Potala Palace, Jokhang monastery, Ramoche Monastery and & Norbulinka.

 

Visit Potala, which was constructed in 637 by Songtsen Gampo, the first king of the united Tibet and later reconstructed and served as the winter residence of the Dalai Lamas and Jokhang monastery, the center of the Tibetan Buddhism and the sacred land of Buddhist followers where innumerable pilgrims come for worship everyday. The temple, built in 647, is the earliest wood-and-masonry structure still existing in Tibet. Norbulingka meaning 'Treasure Park' covers an area of around 360000 sq. m. and is considered to be the biggest man made garden in Tibet. 

Later walk on the Barkhor Street nearby the temple, a big free market with its prolific stalls for selling local specialties.

Day 03: In Lhasa
Morning you will proceed for full day sightseeing of Drepung Monastery & Sera monastery. 

 

Drepung Monastery is one the three greatest Buddhist temples in Lhasa together with Sera and Ganden Monasteries.

Visit Drepung Monastery for the whole morning, later after drive to Sera Monastery, have a little hike for the beautiful valley scenery nearby and picnic there, in the afternoon, visit Sera monastery, which was created in 1419 and has always been an important Buddhist seminary. As rose are planted everywhere in the monastery, it is also called “the court of wild rose”.

Days 04: Lhasa - Gyantse
The day begins with our journey by land into the Rongbuk Valley. We have the road of friendship, the Jeep Khamba Rising 4794meters, from which magnificent views of the lake Yamdrok:TSO on the mountain Kang Nazin Sat 7252meters. While we continue our journey in a westerly direction along another high pass the Karo The 5045meters can show by an immense glacier down to the few hundred yards from the road. After a few hours, we reach one of the most beautiful valleys in Gyantse and colorful Tibetan villages.

Day 05: Lhasa - Yamdroktso –Gyantse - Shigatse
In the morning, drive up the mountain road to visit the holy lake Yamdroktso. In the afternoon, go to the small Tibetan town Gyantse and visit the famous Kumbum there. Proceed to Shigatse city.

Day 06: Shigtase – Tingri

In the morning, visit Tashilunpo Monastery – Panchen Lama’s seat. In the afternoon you will drive to Tingri and on arrival check-in into the hotel for overnight stay.


Day 07: Trek to Lung Thang
The trail heads away from Tingri plain towards Cho Oyu.


As you near the village of Chholung, a small Gompa is visible. Further on, barren plains open up. Amazingly, even in these barren fields local villagers yield good harvest of barley. Mostly, you will find herders in this territory. You can select a superb campsite at Lung Thang to spend the night.

Day 08: Trek to Lamna La [5150 m]
As you ascend to Lamna La pass at 5150m, you may find the trail quite strenuous. But as soon as your eyes bask in the splendor of majestic vistas of surrounding mountain peaks, you will realize that this trek has indeed been very self-rewarding and worthwhile. Camping atop this pass dwarfs other materialistic pleasures.

Day 09: Trek to Zommug
Further away from Langma la pass, you have to take steep descent through verdant vegetation. En route, you encounter yak herders. The trail continues towards the whitewashed walls and barren fields of Zommug village. Amazing vistas of Mount Everest and Gyachung Kang visually rejuvenates you as you enter Zommug. Since lands being infertile are unable to yield agricultural crops, local villages are largely dependent on animal husbandry for livelihood. At a superb location, you will camp for the night.

Day 10: Trek to Rongbuk
As the morning seeps in, you march towards Rongbuk. Within few hours along Rongbuk Glacier, North Face of Everest becomes visible flaunting its unparalleled beauty. Rongbuk Monastery lies ahead 15 kilometers below Everest Base Camp at an elevation of 4980 m, at the foot of the Rongbuk Glacier.In a way, Rongbuk is regarded as a gateway to Mount Everest. From this outstanding location you get breathtaking views of the magnificent Mount Everest.

Day 11: Trek to Everest Base camp
It is a 9 km walk along dirt road to the base of Mt. Everest. The base camp itself is dry and barren, but the views of Everest more than compensates for this. It is a truly awe-inspiring place with the sheer north face of the highest mountain in the world towering above you.


Day 12: Drive Base Camp - Nyalam (215 Kms /05 Hrs)

You take a 215 km drive from Base Camp to Nyalam along Friendship Highway traversing past Pang La pass. On the way you can halt at Tingri for lunch. Further away amidst the stunning views of Everest, Cho Oyu and other mountain peaks, you accelerate past Lalung La pass at 5124m and Shung La pass at 5200m. The trail further commands far-reaching views of enchanting Shishapangma, Menlungtse and Gauri Shankar enchant as you leave behind arid Tibetan Plateau. The route then progresses towards pristine and fortified town of Nyalam where you can find a suitable accommodation at a hotel.


Day 13: Nyalam – Kathmandu
In the morning you will be depart for Kathmandu and after the short distance, on foot and the control of migration in Nepal with the formalities for reentry into Kathmandu,


 Arrive Kathmandu and check-in into the hotel for overnight.

Day 14: Departure Kathmandu
Morning you will be free for independent activities and later as per scheduled transferred you to the airport to board on fight for onward journey.
