Everest Base Camp Tour

Day 01: Kathmandu - Lhasa
Fly on Air China flight to Lhasa and on arrival at Gonggar Airport, Tibetan guide shall meet you and transfer provide to Lhasa city.


Lhasa in Tibetan means "Place of the Gods", the residence of the Dalai Lama. It is sacred because of the figures of Songtsen Gampo and his two royal consorts and the figures of Sakyamuni brought from Chang' and Nepal. One thousand five hundred years ago Lhasa was known as Otang, which means, "plain flowing with milk," because of its rich pasture, good for grazing sheep and cattle. The Rasa Monastery soon became the Otang people's central place of worship, for it enshrined the gilded image of Sakyamuni brought from Chang's an by Princess Wen Cheng. In the course of time, the original name of the place was forgotten, and it became known simply as Rasa, which was gradually changed into Lhasa.

Day 02: In Lhasa
Morning you will proceed for full day sightseeing of Potala Palace, Jokhang monastery, Ramoche Monastery and & Norbulinka.

 

Visit Potala, which was constructed in 637 by Songtsen Gampo, the first king of the united Tibet and later reconstructed and served as the winter residence of the Dalai Lamas. and Jokhang monastery, the center of the Tibetan Buddhism and the sacred land of Buddhist followers where innumerable pilgrims come for worship everyday. The temple, built in 647, is the earliest wood-and-masonry structure still existing in Tibet. Norbulingka meaning 'Treasure Park' covers an area of around 360000 sq. m. and is considered to be the biggest man made garden in Tibet.  

 

Later walk on the Barkhor Street nearby the temple, a big free market with its prolific stalls for selling local specialties.

Day 03: In Lhasa
Morning you will proceed for full day sightseeing of Drepung Monastery & Sera monastery. 

 

Drepung Monastery is one the three greatest Buddhist temples in Lhasa together with Sera and Ganden Monasteries.

 

Visit Drepung Monastery for the whole morning, later after drive to Sera Monastery, have a little hike for the beautiful valley scenery nearby and picnic there, in the afternoon, visit Sera monastery, which was created in 1419 and has always been an important Buddhist seminary. As rose are planted everywhere in the monastery, it is also called “the court of wild rose”.

Day 04: Lhasa - Gyantse
In the morning you will drive to Gyantse crossing the Kamba La (4794m) & Koro La Pass (5010m). via the Lake Yamdrok Tso.

Day 05: Gyantse - Shigatse (90 Kms/ 03 Hrs)
Morning visit the Khumbhum Stupa & Phalkor Monastery at Gyantse. Embark on a pleasant 2 hrs, drive to Shigatse. Afternoon: Sightseeing tours of the Tashilumpo Monastery and the free Tibetan market.

Day 06: Shigatse - Xegar (244 Kms / 05 Hrs)
Drive over to approx. 8 hrs to Xegar.

Day 07: Xegar - Dza Rambuk (60 Kms / 02 Hrs)
In the morning you will drive over rocky terrain on 4WD by Land Cruiser to the village of Dza Rangphu.

Day 08: Everest Base Camp Excursion (96 Kms/03hrs)
A 2 hrs trek from the Rongbuk Monastery will lead you to the base camp of the highest peak on earth. The north face of Mount Everest (8848m) or Mt. Quomolangma in Tibetan. Explore the Base Camp and the Rangphu Glacier. Retreat to lodge.
Later in the afternoon you will return to Tingri.

Day 09: Tingri - Nyalam (214 Kms /04 Hrs)
Drive downhill to Nyalam crossing two spectacular passes- The Lalung La (5082m) & Nyalam (3800m).

Day 10: Nyalam - Kathmandu (123 Kms /04 Hrs)
Drive downhill to Zhangmu and to the Friendship Bridge where transportation awaits for the groups for final journey to Kathmandu.
