Polonnaruwa and Kandy Tour

Day 01: Arrive Colombo
On your early morning arrival at International airport, transfer to your hotel for overnight stay.

 

Colombo the capital of Srilanka and is located on the west coast of the island. The city is a bustling metropolis, the city is an attractive blend of old and new. It has the lazy charm of the bygone era combined with the verve and vivaciousness of a modern city. Colombo is an ideal location to start the Sri Lanka sojourn.nad the city is also home to a majority of the Srilanka corporate office and entertainment venues. 

 

Day 02: In Colombo

In the morning you will proceed for a city sightseeing tour

 

Visit the Fort, Slave Island, where the slaves had their night quarters, Mount Lavinia – the famous beach, Kelaniya Raja Maha Vihara – the famous Buddhist temple, Wolvendaal Church – the oldest Dutch church. Also visit House of Fashion, ODEL, Noritake ceramic shop & a local souvenir shop.
 
Stay overnight at your hotel.

 

Day 03: Colombo - Polonnaruwa
In the morning you will drive to Habarana and on arrival check-in into the hotel.
 
Watch the charm of mediaeval Sri Lanka at Polonnaruwa. Polonnaruwa served the Sri Lankan kings as a 'country residence' from the 7th century. Within the contours of the Royal Citadel are the remnants of the King's palace, the Council Chamber and the Royal Bath. The Buddha images at the Gal Vihara or the Rock Temple are wonderful examples of stone sculpture. Parakrama Samudra or the Sea of Parakrama is a colossal man made irrigation reservoir.

 

In the morning you will drive to Dambulla where we tour the Dambulla Rock Temple. The temple holds a magnificent gallery of Buddha images. Wall and ceiling paintings are not seen anywhere else in the Island. It is a complex of five cave temples with its origin harking back to the Anuradhapura period (1st century BC). However due to refurbishments undertaken by various rulers over the past two thousand years what now remains is mostly work done in the Kandyan period (18th century).

 

Day 04: Polonnaruwa - Sigiriya
In the morning you will drive to Sigiriya and on arrival check-in into the hotel.

 

The monarch erected this 'Palace in the Sky' in the 5th century AD. On the top of the Sigiriya rock (meaning the 'Lion Rock') are the remnants of a large palace, which is the earliest surviving royal building in Sri Lanka. The palace has several chambers and a bathing pond. In a pocket of the giant rock are the celebrated paintings of 5th century. The Mirror Wall, which had been exposed to elements for more than fifteen centuries still, has some of the original sheen. This archaeological site has been declared a World Heritage Site.

Day 05: Sigiriya - Kandy
In the morning you will drive to Kandy and on arrival check-in into the hotel.

 

Kandy is a World Heritage Site and the name Kandy was derived by the colonial rulers from the word Kanda in Sinhala, meaning a hill. Kandy was the stronghold of the Sinhalese kings, who promoted and protected the local culture until the city fell to the British in 1815. Kandy is famous for the Kandy Perahara-a huge cultural pageant that takes place in the month of July or August. It is one of the most colorful processions of the world. Thousands of drummers and dancers accompanying a parade of ornamented elephants perform in the streets of Kandy. 

 

Afternoon proceed for a city sightseeing tour

 

Drive around the Kandy Lake, the Kandy town and bazaar, the arts and crafts centre, a gem museum and a lapidary. Also visit the Temple of the Tooth also known as Dalda Maligawa, it is one of the most sacred Buddhist pilgrimage sites in the world.

 

Day 06: Kandy – Colombo
In the morning you will be proceed for Colombo and on arrival directly transferred to airport to the flight for onward journey.
