The North Eastern Kingdom Tour

Day 01: Arrive Kolkata
On your arrival at international airport, transfer to your hotel for overnight stay.


The city was established in 1686 when British moved to the small villages of Sutanati, Govindpur, and Kalikata from their trading port of Hooghly. The city got its name from the last of the settlements mentioned above. The city progressed well until 1756 when Siraj-Ud-Daula (Nawab of Bengal) attacked the town and drove away the British. Lord Clive retook Calcutta- Kolkata and until 1911, Calcutta- Kolkata remained the capital of the British government in India. Being the center of power for so long created a unique culture and heritage of the city, totally unlike any other city of India. Calcutta is today a sprawling city of strange contrasts.  Palatial houses, huge monuments, a center of active politics, film and theatre, culture and art, the city offers another picture of herself in its hustle-bustle, its over crowdedness, its noisy streets and narrow lanes. 


Day 02: In Kolkata
Morning proceed for city sightseeing of Kolkata


Visit Indian Museum - Established long back in 1814 in the Asiatic Society Building was founded by Dr. Nathaniel Wallich, a botanist from Denmark. It is one of the earliest museums established in the world and considered the largest and best museum in the country. In 1875, it was shifted to the new building in Italian architectural style designed by Walter B Grawille, Kali Ghat - Kalighat is located in the city of Calcutta on the banks of the river Hooghly (Bhagirathi). The Kalighat temple in its present form iis only about 200 years old, although it has been referred to in Mansar Bhasan composed in the 15th century, and in Kavi Kankan Chandi of the 17th century. St.Paul Church & Victoria memorial - Victoria Memorial has been built in a sprawling 26 hectares of land and a visit to Victoria Memorial is the best education one can possibly have of the British East India Company's rule in India. Here you will come face to face with miniature paintings and images of Queen Mary, King George V and Queen Victoria. What is more, you will be mesmerized by the three thousand five hundred articles associated with the everlasting memory of Queen Victoria.

Day 03: Kolkata – Guwahati
Departure transfer to domestic airport to connect flight for Guwahati and on arrival transfer to your hotel.


Guwahati considered as the gateway to the North-East of the country and Hub for the entire region and an entry point the world of wonders. The city is also a major center for cultural activities and sports in the North Eastern Region and for the administrative and political activities in Assam.  The city is located between the picturesque hills of the eastern flanks of the Himalayan mountain range.
Later sight seeing tour of city


Visit Kamakhya Temple Kalakshetra, for a Glimpse of Assamese culture & tradition, Bashistha Ashram and a Major Hindu Pilgrimage site. Next visit to Bhubaneswar, from where one can have a bird's eye view of the Guwahati.

Day 04: Guwahati - Kaziranga National Park (220 Kms/4 Hrs)
Morning drive on to famous Kaziranga National park and on arrival check-in into  Jungle resort.


Kaziranga National Park is consisting of dense forest, rugged reeds, marshes and shallow pools. Elephant grass grows up to a few meters making it an ideal grazing ground for the famed one Horned Rhinoceros as well as a habitat of many mammals, including tigers, elephants, panthers and bears and thousand of birds.
In the afternoon visit nearby Tea Estate.

Day 05: In Kaziranga
Early morning explore central Range of Kaziranga National Park on Elephant Safari. Elephants moved in a group through the grazing ground taking us closest we could be to the wild ones. Wildlife to be seen in the central range is Rhinoceros,


On return explore the eastern range on a jeep safari.
Return for lunch and proceed to Western Range of Kaziranga National Park on jeep. Stay overnight at resort.


Day 06: Kaziranga - Kohima-Touphema (225 Kms/5 Hrs)
Morning proceed for Kohima and on arrival proceed to Touphema Village Resort.
The Touphema Village is situated on hillock with panoramic views of the surrounding valleys at a distance of 41 km north of Nagaland capital Kohima. The village offers exquisite traditional Naga life in the lap of nature.

Met the Villagers in Touphema, a community of Angami Naga later you will enjoy cultural presentation.
Stay overnight at resort.


Day 07: Touphema - Kohima
Morning proceed for Kohima and on arrival check–in into the hotel


Kohima is derived from the “Kew Hi” is the name of a plant grown on the mountainside. “Kew Hi Ma” means “the men of the land where the flower Kew Hi grows”. Earlier, Kohima was known as “Thigoma”. It is the centre for Naga Culture. It Artifacts, handlooms, & Handicrafts, Tools & Implements, Gems & Jewelry, Coins & Ancient weaponry will give you an idea of the rich Culture and Heritage of the native people.

Afternoon Visit the Kohima War Cemetery, where one of the fiercest battles was fought, State Museum, located at Bayani hill Kohima. Also visit Catholic Church on Aradhurah Hill, Naga Bazaar displays dioramas of the lifestyle of the Naga tribes.

Late Afternoon proceed to Kepfiizha (Kigwema village) and for best trekking on beautiful Dzukuo Valley. The best way to explore Kohima is on a Motorcycle.
Return to Kohima for overnight at hotel.


Day 08: In Kohima (Excursion to Khonoma)
Full day excursion to Khonoma


Visit Angami Tribal village of Khonoma, home village of father of Naga Nationalist movement Angami Phizo. This village located on top of a hillock has a pastoral beauty of its own. This was where the Last part of the Anglo Naga War was fought.
Return to Kohima for overnight stay.

 

Day 09: In Kohima (Excursion to Dimori Cove)
Morning visit the Kohima War Cemetery, where one of the fiercest battles was fought, State Museum, located at Bayani hill Kohima. Also visit Catholic Church on Aradhurah Hill, Naga Bazaar displays dioramas of the lifestyle of the Naga tribes.

 

Late Afternoon proceed to Kepfiizha (Kigwema village) and for best trekking on beautiful Dzukuo Valley. The best way to explore Kohima is on a Motorcycle.
Return to Kohima for overnight at hotel.


Day10: Kohima – Sibsagar (225 Kms/5 Hrs)
Morning depart for Sibsagar, and on arrival check-in into the hotel.

 

Visit remains of Ahom Kingdom who ruled Assam for 500 years before giving in to British and Tai Ahom Museum and the Maidams (Mummy like structures) of Ahom kings Burial grounds at Charaideo.

Stay overnight at hotel.

 

Day 11: Sibsagar - Jorhat
Morning you will drive to Jorhat and on arrival at Jorhat check-in into the hotel.

 

The Tea capital of the world Jorhat is an important agricultural town for Assam. Since the time of British rule, Jorhat has been the main center for tea cultivation. Before the British Raj in 1824, it was the capital of Ahom Kingdom.
Jorhat is also famous for Majuli Island which is the largest river island in the world.

Afternoon you will visit to a nearby village to see Assamese villagers culture and tradition to see the simplicity of their lives.

Day 12: Jorhat- Shillong (350 Kms / 06 & ½ Hrs)
Morning proceed for Shillong by surface and on arrival check-in into the hotel for overnight stay.

The romantic city of Shillong is often referred to as the “Scotland of the East” due to its striking similarity with the Scottish highlands. The city derives its name from “Leishyllong”—the Superpower or God who is believed to reside on the Shillong peak, overlooking the city. Lying in the cradle of the tall pine conifers and pineapple shrubs, Shillong’s undulating terrain is a constant source of attraction for tourists from both home and abroad. It is present home to the Jaintia and Garo and Khasi Highland tribes.

 

Day 13: In Shillong
Morning sightseeing at Shillong

Visit Shillong peak, Elephant falls, Mawsmai cave, Mawsmai falls and Thangkharam Park (which overlooks panoramic plains of Bangladesh.
Stay overnight at Shillong.

 

Day 14: Shillong – Guwahati (100 Kms /02 &1/2 Hrs)
Morning you will drive on to Guwahati and on arrival check-in into hotel.

Evening spend on a river cruise to watch the sun go down the river and see yourself why the river is locally called 'Luit'- colour of blood.
Stay overnight at your hotel.

 

Day 15: Guwahati – Kolkatta – Onward Journey

In time transfer to Guwahati airport to board flight for Kolkatta.  After reaching at Kolkatta airport take the connecting flight to your onward destination.
