Buddhist Heritage Tour

Places to visit: Delhi - Jaipur - Agra - Varanasi - Bodhgaya - Vaishali - Kushinagar - Lumbini - Kapilvastu - Sravasti – Balrampur – Lucknow – Delhi

 

Day 01: Arrive Delhi
On your arrival at International airport, transfer to your hotel for overnight stay.

Delhi, India’s modern capital is also an ancient city tracing its origins in legend.  It is dotted with hundreds of landmarks and offers more than a millennium of history in stone.  From here various Hindu and Muslim dynasties including the Mughals ruled India. When British administration moved to Delhi and New Delhi became the Capital of India once again.

Day 02: In Delhi
Full day tour of New Delhi & Old Delhi.

 

Morning proceed for sightseeing of New Delhi, Visit Qutub Minar, One of the fine examples of early Afghan architecture, Humayun Tomb, built by the wife of Humayun, Haji Begum in the mid 16th century, this red sand stone structure is considered to be the predecessor of Taj Mahal.  Drive pass by India Gate (A War memorial) and Presidency House.

Afternoon proceed for sightseeing of Old Delhi, include the drive past to Red Fort, visit to Jama Masjid, Commissioned by the Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan and completed in the year 1656 AD, it is one of the largest and best-known mosques, and later enjoy cycle rickshaw ride within Chandani Chowk market.

Day 03: Delhi - Jaipur
Morning proceed for Jaipur on arrival check- in into your hotel for overnight stay.


In 1876 A.D. Jaipur dressed itself in pink to welcome Prince Albert, consort of Queen Victoria and earned the epitaph ‘PINK CITY', it is also a home of excellent handicrafts especially known for the exquisite gold jewellery enameled or inlaid with precious stones, blue pottery, carving on wood, stone & ivory, block print, tie & dye textiles, hand made paper, miniature painting etc.

Day 04: In Jaipur
Morning you will take full day city tour of Jaipur and Amber Fort.

 

Visiting Amber Fort, Amber was the capital of the Kachhwaha clan, till Jaipur was made the official capital in 1727. Situated on a crafty hill, is the royal elephant ride to ascend the fort (depending upon the availability else by jeep).

Afternoon you will stop at Hawa Mahal (Wind Palace) for photography. Hawa Mahal was built in 1799, its original intention was to allow royal ladies to observe everyday life in the street below without being seen. Next visit to City Palace and Jantar Mantar.

Evening you will be free to visit local animated market.

Day 05: Jaipur - Fatehpur Sikri – Agra (240 Kms / 5 Hrs)
Drive to Agra, en-route visit Fatehpur Sikri.

Fatehpur Sikri is 40 Kms from Agra and built by Emperor Akbar in 1569 and abandoned after 15 years due to scarcity of water. See the graceful buildings including the Jama Masjid, Tomb of Salim Chisti, Panch Mahal and other Palaces.

 

Later continue drive to Agra and on arrival check-in into the hotel.

Agra is famous as being home to one of the Seven Wonders of the World-the Taj Mahal. The architectural splendour of the mausoleums, the fort and the palaces is a vivid remainder of the capital in the 16th and early 17th centuries. A pleasant town with comparatively slow pace, the city is also famous for its carpets, gold thread embroidery and leather shoes. Agra was once the capital of the Mughal Empire.

Half day city sightseeing of Agra
Visiting the world famous Taj Mahal built by the Moghul Emperor Shahjehan in 1630 for his Queen Mumtaz Mahal to enshrine her mortal remains. Later visit the Agra Fort containing the the Halls of Public and Private Audience. Also visit the Tomb of Itmad-ud-Daullah built by Empress Noorjehan in memory of her father.
Stay overnight at hotel.

Day 06: Agra – Varanasi
In time transfer to airport to board flight to Varanasi, and on arrival you transfer to hotel.

 

Varanasi is the City Of Light, Religious and Spiritual, the land of Lord Shiva offers a breathtaking experience, and  is rich in Arts, Music, Dance & Literature and a centre for studying Astrology, Sanskrit, Yoga, Ayurveda. Varanasi is also renowned for art of silk weaving, an exotic work of  art  which  manifests  itself  in  precious  Banarasi Silk Sarees  and Silk brocades which are cherished as collector’s items across the world today.

In the Evening, you will be proceed for an excursion to Sarnath,

 

Visit to Sarnaath (also known as Mrigadava, Migadāya, Rishipattana, and Isipatana) is the deer park where Gautama Buddha first taught the Dharma, and where the Buddhist Sangha came into existence through the enlightenment of Kondanna. The town is located 13 kilometers north-east of Varanasi. 


Return to your hotel for overnight stay.

Day 07: In Varanasi
Early morning boat ride on river Ganges, witness the panoramic view of Ganga and different Ghats.

Return to hotel for freshening up at hotel and proceed for city sightseeing tour of Varanasi.


You will visit Kashi Vishwnath Temple, Kashi Vishwanath temple is one of the most famous Hindu temples dedicated to Lord Shiva and is in the holy city of Varanasi. Tulsi Manas Temple, the Tulsi Manas temple is dedicated to lord Ram. It is believed to be built at the same place where Tulsidas wrote the famous Indian epic, Ramcharitamanasa. The walls of the Tulsi Manas temple are engraved with verses and scenes from the Ramcharitammanasa. Bharat Mata Temple; the Bharat Mata temple at Varanasi is the only temple dedicated to Mother India. The Bharat Mata temple was built by Babu Shiv Prasad Gupt and inaugurated by Mahatma Gandhi in 1936. 
In the evening you can take a Cycle-Rickshaw ride for visit of Ghats to witness the “Deepmala” Ceremony.

Day 08: Varanasi – Bodhgaya
Morning proceed to Bodhgaya and on arrival check-in into the hotel.

 

Bodhgaya is most sacred places for Buddhists and Hindus. It is the place where Lord Sakyamuni (Gautam Buddha) entered into meditation after being moved by the sufferings of mankind and Lord Buddha sat under the banyan tree and attained enlightenment, and a descendant of that original tree still flourishes there today.

After freshen up a bit you will be taken on an excursion trip to Rajgir, Nalanda,

 

Rajgir was occupied from around 800 BC. Encircled by forested hills it is held sacred by both Buddhists and Jains for its association with the Buddha and Mahavir, who taught here for many years, the capital of the Magadhan Empire before Patliputra,
Afternoon proceed for sightseeing of Rajgir.


Visit to Ghosrawan - a Buddhist monastery and the seat of higher learning.
Next to Pippala cave and Vishwa Shanti Stupa .

Next you will visit to Nalanda University.


Nalanda has the ruins of one of the world’s oldest universities, founded in the 5th century AD on an ancient site of pilgrimage and teaching which had been visited by Buddha and Mahavir, who is reputed to have spent 14 rainy seasons on the site.
Return to your hotel for overnight stay.

Day 09: In Bodhgaya
Morning proceed for sightseeing of Bodhgaya

 

Visit the Maha Bodhi, Jaganath temple and also visit the Bodhgaya Archaelogical Museum which is a must for a religious art lover. besides a number of monasteries, like Tibetan Monastery, Thai Monastery, Myanmar Monastery, Chinese Monastery, Bhutanese Monastery, Japanese Monastery and Sri Lankan Monastery.

 

Rest of the day you are free for independent activities.

Day 10: Bodhgaya – Kushinagar
Morning proceed to Kushinagar by surface, en-route visiting Vaishali.

 

Vaishali is situated in the eastern Indian state of Bihar, around 55 km off Patna, the capital of the state. Vaishali extends from latitude 25° in the North to longitude 85° in the East. The town, an important place for both the Buddhists and Jain is well connected to other important cities in Bihar by road.

 

Later proceed for the Kushinagar, and on arrival check-in into the hotel.

Originally known as Kushinara (the actual site is unknown), it is one of four major Buddhist pilgrimages sites. Kushinagar is celebrated as the place where the Buddha died and was cremated and passed in Pariarinrvana. It was in Kushinagar that Lord Buddha delivered his last sermon.

Day 11: Kushinagar – Lumbini
Morning proceed for sightseeing tour of Kushinagar.

Visiting Ashok Pillar, Lotus Tank, Chaumukhi.

 

Afternoon you will drive towards Lumbini. On the way, you will be making a stoppage for visiting Mahanirvana Temple and on arrival check-in into the hotel for overnight stay.

 

Lumbini is the hallowed birthplace of Siddhartha Gautam, the Shakya prince, the eventual Shakyamuni and the ultimate Buddha - the Enlightened One. This nativity site, identified by Emperor Ashoka’s commemorative pillar erected over 2,200 years ago. The Pillar was erected by Emperor Ashoka in 249 BC to commemorate his pilgrimage to the sacred site. The inscription on it authenticates Lumbini as the place where the Buddha was born in 623 BC.


Day 12: Lumbini – Balrampur
Morning will be spent in visiting the temple of Mayadevi. In the afternoon, you will be driven to Balrampur. On the way, you will be visiting Kailvastu and Saravasti, seeing Jeatvan Monastery.

 

On arrival at Balrampur you will check-in into at hotel for overnight stay.

Day 13: Balrampur - Lucknow
Morning proceed to Lucknow by surface and on arrival check-in into hotel for overnight stay.

 

Lucknow is an enchanting city a mixture of down at heel elegance, ascinating charm and unique culture gives it an irresistible appeal.   Its traces are found in the people’s mannerisms and habits.  It was abode of the Nawabs of Avadh.  Their regal pastimes and pleasures were legendry fond of song and dance, they nurtured Urdu verse as well as the Kathak School of courtly dances.  Their monuments excelled in the use of arches, pavilions and domes.

Day 14: Lucknow - Delhi
Morning proceed for city tour of Lucknow


The sightseeing tour includes visits to Shahnajaf Imambara, which derives its name from the Hazrat Ali tomb in the Iraqi city of Najaf.  In 1857 it was a base for freedom fighters, Bara Imambara, built by Nawab Asaf-ud-daula during the famine of 1784, ranks among the great architectural achievements of the Muslim period.  Absence of pillars in the main hall and simplicity of style and symmetry are its unique features.  Husainabad Imambara known as Chota Imambara was built by Muhammad Ali Shah as his tomb.  It is very ornate, with chandeliers, gilt-edged mirrors, and colorful stuccos and houses the king’s throne. 

In time departure transfer to airport to board flight for Delhi and on arrival transfer to your hotel for overnight stay.

Day 15: Depart Delhi
In time transfer to international airport to board flight for onward Journey.
