Gujarat Royal Heritage Tour, India

Day 01:  Arrive Mumbai
On your arrival at Mumbai airport, transfer to your hotel for overnight stay.


Mumbai is an industrial metropolis as well as the textile and film capital of the country. It was once a cluster of 7 islands. Bombay was ceded to the Portuguese by the local ruler in the 16th Century.  Later, it was acquired by the English when it was given as a dowry to King Charles II when he married a Portuguese princess.  Today cosmopolitan Bombay is a commercial nerve centre apart from being one of India’s busiest ports.

Day 02:  In Mumbai
Morning we take a half-day excursion to the Elephanta Caves.

 

Elephanta is a 3 Kms long elongated island, consisting of two hills separated by a valley.  See Shiva in his three-headed aspect: as Creator (facing right), Protector (the crowned face at the center), and Destroyer (facing left, with serpents for hair). Also visit to Shiva bringing the Ganges River down to Earth.

 

Afternoon take the Half day tour Mumbai.

Visit the Juhu Beach, Gateway of India, Victoria Terminus, Prince of Wales Museum, Drive past the “Towers of Silence”, Kamla Nehru Park and Hanging Gardens situated on the slope of Malabar Hill offering a panoramic view of Marine Drive and Chowpatty Beach. Drive through local animated Crawford market.
Stay overnight at hotel.


Day 03: Mumbai – Ahmedabad - Dasada (90 Kms / 03 Hrs)
In time you will be transferred to airport for flight to Ahmedabad and arrival check-in into the hotel.


Day 04: Dasada – Patan
In the morning you will leave to Patan by surface.


Patan is home of the famous patola silk saris. Patan is a beautiful old town with Jain temples and carved wooden houses. Continue your drive to Modhera the Sun Temple of Modhera is one of the finest examples of Indian temple architecture of its period. Built in 1026 AD the temple is dedicated to the Sun-God, Surya and stands high on a plinth overlooking a deep stone stepped tank.
Still continue your drive to the Little Runn of Kutch and on arrival check-in into Camp for overnight stay.

Day 05: Patan - Ran of Kutch
This morning you will visit the city little Rann of Kutch  and Asiatic Wild Ass


Sanctuary is famous for its large herds of wild asses as it is for its lions. In india the horse tribe is represented by the Indian wild ass. In the Little Rann of Kutch, the asses are attracted by the flat grass covered expanses known as bets or islands where coarse grasses spring up in monsoon. With the advent of summer, the asses move to other bets in which there is perennial supply of water and grass. Besides the wild ass, the Sanctuary has a large population of blue bulls, black bucks, Chinkaras, wolves and Jackals.  This is the India’s second largest wild life sanctuary which has no human population as man can not survive due to the presence of high content of salt in water.

Day 06: Ran of Kutch - Bhuj
Morning proceed to Bhuj and on arrival check –in into the hotel.


The oldest museum in Gujarat is located in Bhuj. After the earthquake most of the old parts are down. Arrive Bhuj and check-in into hotel.
In the afternoon visit the Museum, Ayanamahal and Cenetops.
Stay overnight at hotel.


Day 07: Bhuj
Today you will spend full day visiting the various villages to see for yourself the living style of the Bani Tribe.
You will be able to have a look at their special style of embroidery called Bharat.
Return to your hotel in Bhuj for overnight stay.


Day 08: Bhuj – Gondal
Today you will drive from Bhuj to Gondal en-route visiting Rajkot,


which was once the capital of the princely state of Saurashtra. Today it is best known as the town where Mahatma Gandhi spent the early years of his life when his father was a Diwan or Prime Minister of the king of Saurashtra. Visit to Watson Museum.


Continue your drive to Gondal and check in into hotel.


Gondal is a place with a royal past and naturally is dotted with a number of forts and palaces. The rulers of Gondal were great lovers of automobiles and one can see several vintage and Classic cars in the royal garage. Two Royal Rail saloons of the Gondal State were renovated, keeping the original decor and are available in the Orchard Garden palace. 

Later sightseeing city tour of Gondal
Visit Orchard Palace, Naulakha palace was built during the 17th century, and is the oldest palace in Gondal and the royal garages in Gondal.
Evening excursion to Jetpur textile town known for yarn dyeing and hand printed saris.
Stay overnight at hotel.

 

Day 09: Gondal – Junagarh – Gir National Park
This morning you will drive from Gondal to Junagarh


Junagarh is an ancient fortified city rich in myth and legend. The antiquities of Junagarh go back to the times of the Emperor Ashoka. Junagadh is situated in the Saurashtra region at the foot of the temple-studded Mount Girnar, on the northern fringes of the Gir forest. The city takes its name from the Fort that enclosed the medieval town.


Visit the Fort and then you will drive to Sasangir. Arrive and check in at The Gir Forest Lodge.


Gir National Park & Wildlife Sanctuary is a 1412 sq km hilly tract of dry deciduous forests, acacia scrub, evergreen and semi-evergreen flora and grasslands, fed by rivers and streams. The National park is the only home to the Asiatic Lions in India. there are several human settlements of cattle herders with abundance of livestock population that forms a significant part of the Lion's diet.
 
Day 10: Gir National Park – Diu

In the early morning we have jungle safari in the Gir National Park.


Arise early morning to have jeep drive to the Sasan Gir Sanctuary which provides refuge to that rare species- The Asiatic Lion. Gir is also one of the major habitats of chousingha (the world’s only four-horned antelope) and Chinkara (Indian gazelle).
Later drive to Diu and on arrival check-in into hotel for overnight stay.


Day 11: In Diu

Morning visit the city with Fort
Visit the places of interest in Diu mainly the Fort, the Church, the Museum all giving a touch of Portuguese influence.
Rest of the day is to relax on the beach. Stay overnight at hotel.


Day 12: Diu – Bhavnagar

After breakfast, leave Diu for Bhavnagar and on arrival check-in into the hotel.


Bhavnagar was founded by Bhavsinhji Gohil (1703-64 AD) in 1723 AD near the Gulf of Khambhat, on a carefully chosen strategic location having potential of maritime trade. The Darbargadh (royal residence) was located at the center of the town. The rulers of Bhavnagar subsequently shifted to Motibag and Nilambag Palace. 
                                                               
Afternoon leave for a city sightseeing tour


Visit the Takhteshwar Temple and Gandhi Smriti Museum. Takhteshwar temple is located on a small hillock and provide good views over the city and out into the Gulf of Cambay. Gandhi Smriti Museum is located northeast, by the clock tower and has a good collection of Gandhi memorabilia and and lovely place and Victoria Park.


 In the evening we visit the bazaar in Bhavnagar.
Stay overnight at hotel.


Day 13: In Bhavnagar (Excursion to Palitana 56 Kms /01 & ½ Hrs)
Morning you will visit Palitana a 56 Kms drive from Bhavnagar


 Palitana lies at the foot of the Shatrunjaya Hill, with the Shatrunjaya river flowing to its south. The sacred hill rises in a crescendo of magnificent temples 863 in all. The 600 metre climb to Shatrunjaya is usually made on foot. However, Dolis or lift chairs are also available at extra cost.
Return to Bhavnagar for overnight stay.


Day 14: Bhavnagar – Mumbai
Transfer from hotel to airport in time for your Jet airways flight to Bombay. Arrive and transfer to hotel.


Day 15:  Mumbai Departure
Transfer from hotel to airport in time for your flight to the next destination.
