Mountain Biking Tour To Bhutan


Duration: 19 Nights / 20 Days
Places to visit: Delhi - Paro  - Thimphu – Punakha - Wanguephodrang –Gangtey -  Trongsa – Bumthang - Ura – Limithang - Mongar - Gom Kora - Trashi Yangtse-Trashigang - Mongar – Bumthang - Mongar – Bumthang – Punakha – Paro - Delhi

 


Day 01: Arrive Delhi
On your early morning arrival at International airport, transfer to your hotel.
 
Delhi, India’s modern capital is also an ancient city tracing its origins in legend.  It is dotted with hundreds of landmarks and offers more than a millennium of history in stone.  From here various Hindu and Muslim dynasties including the Mughals ruled India. When British administration moved to Delhi and New Delhi became the Capital of India once again.

Full day take the tour of New Delhi & Old Delhi.

 

Morning proceed for sightseeing of New Delhi, Visit Qutub Minar, One of the fine examples of early afghan architecture, Humayun Tomb, built by the wife of Humayun, Haji Begum in the mid 16th century, this red sand stone structure is considered to be the predecessor of Taj Mahal.  Drive pass by India Gate (A War memorial) and Presidency House.


Afternoon proceed for sightseeing of Old Delhi, include the drive past to Red Fort, visit to Jama Masjid, Commissioned by the Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan and completed in the year 1656 AD, it is one of the largest and best-known mosques, and later enjoy cycle rickshaw ride within Chandani Chowk market.

Day 02: Delhi - Paro
Morning you will transfer to international airport to board on flight for Paro, and on arrival transfer to hotel.

 

From the flight a close up view of Mt. Everest, Mt. Kanchenjunga and other famous peaks become a reality. Met upon arrival-proceed to Thimpu (the Capital of Bhutan).
          
Rest of the day you will be free for independent activities.

Paro one of Bhutan's most impressive and well-known dzongs, and the finest example of Bhutanese architecture. The inward-sloping walls form a massive structure that towers over the town and is visible as a great white monolith from vantage points throughout the valley.

 

Day 03: Paro – Thimpu (65 Kms / 02 Hrs)
Full day we take city tour of Paro.

 

Visiting of the Drukgley Dzong and on a clear day the 24,000 ft. white domed peak of sacred Chomolhari (Mt. of Goddess) looms overhead. A visit to the National Museum housed in an ancient watch tower, which has a fine collection of Thangkha, textiles, weapons, and artefacts-short walk to Paro Rimpung Dzong.

 

Later start biking to Thimphu (54 km, approx. 4 hours) passing through the confluence of Paro and Thimphu rivers. The route follows the Valley of Thimphu River through an arid landscape.


Arrive Thimpu and check-in into the hotel for overnight stay.

Day 04: Thimphu – Punakha (70 kms / 04 & 1/2 Hrs)
Morning sightseeing in Thimphu with visit to Memroial Chhorten, Trashichhodzong and Government Handicraft Emporium.


After early lunch biking to Punakha ascending enroute at Dochula pass (3,050m) and later continue descent to Metshina. Punakha is about 12 km from this place at the altitude of 1,250 m so in about 3.1/2 hours biking the total descent from Dochula to Punakha is about 1,800 m.

Day 05: Punakha – Wangduephodrang
Morning you will  visit to 17th century Punakha Dzong followed by visit to Khamsum Yulley Namgyal Chhorten.


Later continue biking to Wangduephodrang (21 km, 1.1/2 hour). Evening you will visit to Wangduephodrang Dzong interesting local market.

Day 06: Wanguephodrang –Gangtey
Morning commence biking to Gangtey (68 km, approx. 4.1/2 hours) gaining altitude of about 1,800 m. Afternoon excursion to Phobjikha valley which is a designated conservation area and famous for black-necked cranes.

Day 07: Gangtey –Trongsa
Morning proceed to central Bhutanese town of Trongsa (125 km, approx. 6 hours) crossing 3,300 m high Pelela pass en route. From Pele la pass proceed to Chendbji Chhorten at altitude of 2,400 m (27 km, 1.1/2 hour), the stupa patterned on Swayambhunath in Kathmandu. Chendbji to Trongsa is about 41 km, approximate two hours of biking on almost flat land.

Day 08: Trongsa – Bumthang
Morning sightseeing with visit to Trongsa Dzong and Ta Dzong and then proceed to Bumthang (68 km, approx.4.1/2 hours) crossing Yotongla pass (3,400 m) and then descend to Gyetsa valley (2,700 m). Later cross 2,900 m Kiki la pass while reaching to Jakar.

Day 09: In Bumthang
Day for relaxation and sightseeing in one of the most beautiful valleys and also the religious heartland of the nation, visiting Tamshing Lhakhang, Jakar Dzong, Kurjey and Jambay Lhakhang.

Day 10: Bumthang – Ura
From Bumthang Ura camping site is about 60 km and time taken is approximate 4 hours. En route cross 3,300 m high Shertang la pass and then descend to Ura village situated at the altitude of 3,000 m. Later explore pleasant Ura village.

Day 11: Ura – Limithang (80 Kms/06 Hrs)
Proceed to Limithang crossing 3,750 m high Thrumshingla pass, the highest point during this trip. From Thrunshingla it is all the way downhill (about 700 m) descent till the camp at Limithang.

Day 12: Limithang  - Mongar  (27 Kms/01 & ½ Hrs)
It is one of the shortest trip on this itinerary with a total descent of about 1,400 m. Evening visit to Mongar Dzong and local market.

Day 13: Mongar - Gom Kora (80 Kms/05 Hrs)
M0orning proceed to Gom Kora The Kori la pass en route is at 2,450 m. The road later descends rapidly till sheri Chhu river.

Day 14: Gom Kor - Trashi Yangtse (65 Kms,/5 &.1/2 Hrs)
Proceed to Trashi Yangtse 2 km ahead of Gom Kora, the road reaches to Doksum, a village where two valleys meet. This place is also known for its weaving. Later arrive at Trashi Yangtse Dzong, situated at altitude of 1,850 m. Heading further northwards in the gorge for about 4 km, the route leads to gigantic Chorten Kora, the stupa built in Nepalese style of architecture.

Day 15: Trashi Yangtse-Trashigang (65 Kms/0 5 Hrs)

Morning biking to Trashigang The trail is gradual up and down till 55 km and later about 10 km upwards the Trashigang. Evening explore the town area, which is the biggest urban centre in Bhutan after Thimphu.


Stay overnight at the lodge.


Day 16: Trashigang - Mongar (91 Kms /03 Hrs)
After breakfast drive back to Mongar. Afternoon exploratory tour to Mongar town.

Day 17: Mongar - Bumthang (198 Kms/0 7 Hrs)
Morning you will drive to Bumthang arriving there by lunch time. After lunch, visit to Yatha weaving centre and local market.
Stay overnight at the lodge.


Day 18: Bumthang - Thimphu (268 Kms/0 8 Hrs)
After breakfast, drive to Thimphu enroute visiting village houses and mingling with local people.
Later continue drive to  drive to Thimphu for overnight stay.


Day 19: Thimphu - Paro (55 Kms, 1&1/2 Hrs) – Delhi
Morning you will drive to Paro airport for flight to Delhi and on arrival transfer to you hotel for overnight stay.


Day 20: Departure  Delhi
In time departure transfer to international airport to board flight for onward Journey.
