East India Wildlife Tour

Places to visit: Kolkatta - Kaziranga National Park - Nameri Tiger Reserve – Kolkatta - Sunderbans National Park - Kolkatta


Day 01: Arrive Kolkata
On your arrival at international airport, transfer to your hotel for overnight stay.

The city was established in 1686 when British moved to the small villages of Sutanati, Govindpur, and Kalikata from their trading port of Hooghly. The city got its name from the last of the settlements mentioned above. The city progressed well until 1756 when Siraj-Ud-Daula (Nawab of Bengal) attacked the town and drove away the British. Lord Clive retook Calcutta- Kolkata and until 1911, Calcutta- Kolkata remained the capital of the British government in India. Being the center of power for so long created a unique culture and heritage of the city, totally unlike any other city of India. Calcutta is today a sprawling city of strange contrasts.  Palatial houses, huge monuments, a center of active politics, film and theatre, culture and art, the city offers another picture of herself in its hustle-bustle, its over crowdedness, its noisy streets and narrow lanes. 

Day 02: In Kolkata

Morning proceed for city sightseeing of Kolkata

 

Visit Indian Museum - Established long back in 1814 in the Asiatic Society Building was founded by Dr. Nathaniel Wallich, a botanist from Denmark. It is one of the earliest museums established in the world and considered the largest and best museum in the country. In 1875, it was shifted to the new building in Italian architectural style designed by Walter B Grawille, Kali Ghat - Kalighat is located in the city of Calcutta on the banks of the river Hooghly (Bhagirathi). The Kalighat temple in its present form iis only about 200 years old, although it has been referred to in Mansar Bhasan composed in the 15th century, and in Kavi Kankan Chandi of the 17th century. St.Paul Church & Victoria memorial - Victoria Memorial has been built in a sprawling 26 hectares of land and a visit to Victoria Memorial is the best education one can possibly have of the British East India Company's rule in India. Here you will come face to face with miniature paintings and images of Queen Mary, King George V and Queen Victoria. What is more, you will be mesmerized by the three thousand five hundred articles associated with the everlasting memory of Queen Victoria.


Stay overnight at your hotel.

Day 03: Kolkata - Jorhat – Kaziranga
Departure transfer to domestic airport to connect flight to Jorhat and on arrival proceed for Kaziranga by surface. Arrive and check-in into the wildlife resort for overnight stay.

Kaziranga National Park is consisting of dense forest, rugged reeds, marshes and shallow pools. Elephant grass grows up to a few meters making it an ideal grazing ground for the famed One Horned Rhinoceros. It is also a habitat of many mammals, including tigers, elephants, panthers and bears and thousand of birds.

Day 04: In Kaziranga
Early morning explore central Range of Kaziranga National Park on Elephant Safari. Elephants moved in a group through the grazing ground taking us closest we could be to the wild ones. Wildlife to be seen in the central range is Rhinoceros,


Return for lunch and proceed to Western Range of Kaziranga National Park on jeep.

Stay overnight at resort.

Day 05: In Kaziranga

Morning proceed for jeep safari to the park

 

Safaris will be in jeeps inside Kaziranga and spend the days in the forest looking out for Asian elephant, Indian one-horned rhino, Royal Bengal tiger, wild buffalo, leopard, Pallas's fish eagle, pied harrier, Bengal florican, greater adjutant stork etc.


In the afternoon walk near by tea estate. Stay overnight at resort.

Day 06: Kaziranga - Nameri Tiger Reserve
Morning you will drive to Nameri Tiger Reserve to get a glimpse of the rare white-winged duck and wreathed hornbill and on arrival check-in into the hotel for overnight stay.

 

Nestled at the foothills of the Eastern Himalayas in the Sonitpur District of Assam, The park consists of deciduous forests, hills and the river Jia Bhoroli flows through it. Nameri is a haven for many rare animals. The rich wildlife includes Tiger, Black bear, elephant, Leopard, Clouded Leopard, Indian Bison, Pangolin, Indian wild dog, deer, Civet Cat, Capped Langur, Jackals.

 

Day 07: In Nameri Tiger Reserve
The whole day will be spent birding at Nameri and looking for the Ibis bills and other wildlife species.
Stay overnight at camp.

Day 08: Nameri Tiger Reserve - Kolkata
Morning birding we drive to Jorhat airport to connect your flight for Kolkata and on arrival transfer to hotel for overnight stay.
 
Day 09: Kolkatta - Sunderbans National Park

Morning proceed to Basanti Port (3 ½ hr.) for Sunderbans. At the Sunderbans, enjoy a cruise to Sajnekhali.  

Stay overnight at cruise.

 

Sunderbans is derived from the term meaning 'the forest of sundari' (Heritiera fomes), a reference to the large tree that provides valuable fuel. Situated at the mouth of the Ganges, Sunderbans spreads over 54 islands and two countries (West Bengal in India and Bangladesh) and is a part of the world's largest delta region. A UNESCO world heritage site, It is one of the last preserves of the Royal Bengal tiger and the site of a tiger conservation project.

 

Day 10: In Sunderbans National Park
Have a Full day cruise through mangrove creeks for wildlife viewing & bird watching at the Sundarbans.

 

Enjoy lunch on the boat. Anchor at Sajnekhali by sunset. You can also opt for watching the Slide show on wildlife at the Mangrove Interpretation Centre in the evening with tea & snacks.

 

Dinner & overnight stay on the boat.

 

Day 11: Sunderbans National Park - Kolkatta
Return back to Basanti Port by the afternoon. Transfer to Kolkatta by car. Stay overnight in a hotel.
 
Day 12: Depart Kolkatta
Transfer to the airport to catch the connecting flight to onward destination.
